The Garmin MK2 Dive Computers
There is a new series of Garmin dive computers on the market: the Garmin Descent in the MK2, MK2i, and MK2s variations. This innovative computer is a smartwatch, dive computer, and sports watch all in one. I'd be happy to tell you more about the unique features of the three new models!
All-in-one watch
The Garmin Descent MK2 is a smartwatch, dive computer, and sports watch all in one. If you want to use it for diving, it's suitable for recreational diving, free diving, and technical diving. It includes features such as a built-in compass, barometer, altimeter, and heart rate monitor. The series comes in three models: MK2, MK2i, and MK2s.
An extensive SmartWatch
Perhaps the coolest thing about the Garmin Descent MK2 is that it can do everything a smartwatch should be able to do. It's connected to your mobile phone and tracks what you're doing for the rest of the day, such as your physical activities. You can set which activities you want to track. It also has features such as email, navigation, WhatsApp, and Garmin Pay. Additionally, you can store or stream up to 2000 songs from Spotify, Deezer, and Amazon Music.
The Garmin Descent MK2i as a dive computer
The Garmin Descent MK2i is transmitter-controlled via a sonar signal. The advantage of this is that the range underwater extends further in terms of distance. After the dive, you can see exactly where you've been. Setting it up is straightforward. The Garmin Descent MK2i beeps and vibrates to give signals, which is unique because it's one of the few models with a built-in vibration function, especially useful underwater!
Underwater control
During a dive, you can operate the Garmin Descent MK2 series by tapping on the outer ring (bezel ring) and controlling the device in that way. In dive mode, the watch lasts for 80 diving hours on a battery, and the upgraded battery provides a longer lifespan. The watch is rechargeable using the included charging clip. The model can be expanded with different straps, including titanium, leather, and silicone straps. View all the straps we offer for the Garmin Descent MK2 here. The standard Descent MK2 comes with silicone straps and a metallic bezel ring with grey buttons.
Also usable as a sports watch
Do you want to use the watch for other activities as well? With the 'multisport' option, you can select various types of sports. Many settings are possible, such as golfing, trail running, walking, treadmill running, hiking, mountain biking, swimming, skiing, snowboarding, surfing, rowing, cardio, and strength training. All straps in different colours are available separately so that you can easily switch between, for example, a metal or a silicone strap. The watch is delivered with a standard silicone strap and an extra-long strap so that it fits easily over your dive suit.
Garmin Descent MK2
The MK2 does everything that the MK2i does, except for the ability to pair with a transmitter. As a result, the model is in a lower price range. If you don't need a transmitter for diving, we recommend going for the MK2. If you want the ability to pair with a transmitter, then the MK2i is the way to go. The Descent MK2i has a black titanium outer ring with blue accents and comes with a titanium band. Both the MK2 and MK2i have a diameter of 52 millimetres. You have the option of three different wristbands of 26 mm in beige, grey, and black. You can also choose a leather or titanium band.
Garmin Descent MK2s
The Garmin Descent MK2s is a smaller model with a diameter of 43mm but has the same features as the MK2. Furthermore, the model has three different options compared to the MK2: a gold, black or metallic bezel ring. The silicone bands are also available in the colours green, black or beige and are 20mm wide. This watch can therefore be fully customized.
