Dive into the deep with the Garmin Descent MK3 series

Dive into the deep with the Garmin Descent MK3 series

By: Marco HartmanComments: 0

After the Garmin Descent MK2 series, the series 3 is now also out. This successor is even better and more special than its successful predecessor, thanks in part to the super-crisp and sharp display. Discover what the new Garmin Descent MK3 series has to offer and why this is the ideal dive computer for every diver.

The ultimate dive computer and smartwatch

When diving, the MK3 series is the ultimate dive computer. But besides a dive computer, this watch can also be used in everyday life as a smartwatch. It receives all notifications, tracks your sports activities and allows you to pay via Garmin Pay, if your bank supports it. A perfect investment therefore for when diving, but also to wear as a normal watch as well as a sports watch.

Choose for a deeper connection

This new Garmin model includes all the functionalities that this innovative brand always offers as standard. Yet it is different from all successful previous models. The Descent MK3 has a super sharp AMOLED colour display. Even under water, you can still see the display of your watch clearly. In addition, the brightness of the screen automatically adjusts when it gets darker or lighter. The new screen also features a touchscreen. Touchscreen can be turned on or off per app, however in the dive app it does not work.

Know when you are ready to dive

Dive deeper with this new model from Garmin. In fact, the Garmin Descent MK3 models allow dives up to 200 metres. The MK3 lets you download up-to-date tidal data. So you know exactly when the tide is ebbing in your location. If you are going to dive in Zeeland, for example, you will of course need to take this into account. Half an hour before that time and half an hour after that time is the tide and then you go into the water. You can see all this exactly on this new dive watch from Garmin. So you always enter the water at the right time.

Keep in touch with up to 8 divers

Do you dive with more people and do they all have a T2 transmitter? With this dive computer, you can keep in touch with up to 8 other divers and even exchange preset messages. So you can see exactly on your watch where one is and how far away the other is from you. That way, you'll never lose each other in the depths of dark water. Another way to get noticed by fellow divers is by lighting. The MK3i - 51 mm has a built-in light in the housing. This works both above and below water. The smaller models do not have this built-in light.

Another useful feature, especially if you are a diving instructor or dive with multiple divers, is that with the Garmin MK3 series you can see and track multiple tanks via transmitters. Place the transmitter on the dive equipment and read how much air is left in the dive tank for each person on your dive watch.

Navigate from your wrist

Thanks to the built-in compass and even a built-in GPS, you can see exactly where you are underwater. It also keeps track of your dive and shows your dive route and location in the logbook. The Garmin Descent MK3 series has a long battery life, allowing you to make many dives in a row. In smartwatch mode, it lasts up to 25 days. In dive mode, this is a bit shorter, depending on the variant you have. After that, of course, you can quickly recharge it for your next dive.

Garmin also has another unique feature. In the dive mode, 4000 worldwide dive sites have been added with the dive site and depths. Via there, you can see how the depths run and what the bottom structure is like. So through this new dive watch, discover where all the good diving is and find your favourite new dive spot.

Different models

Garmin's MK3 series comes in different models. They have the MK3 - 43 mm, the MK3i - 43 mm and the MK3i - 51 mm. The difference is in the size of the watch. In addition, the i-variants are air-integrated. This means that a transmitter can be linked to the dive computer. With the MK3 - 43 mm, this is not possible. However, all three models do feature a heart rate monitor and oxygen sensor. Also, the Garmin Descent MK3 models are compatible with the InReach models. Because this little device is connected to GPS, satellite and your watch, you can press the button as soon as something is wrong. This way, you call for help immediately.

Besides size and ability to pair with a transmitter, battery life in dive mode also varies among the models. The i-series lets you dive for 66 hours, while the standard model only lets you dive for 30 hours.
