The new Suunto D5 dive computer! This is the first all-in-one Wrist top dive computer with colour display from Suunto, which can also be used as a daily watch. With a long battery life, vibration alert and a bright MIP display, the Suunto D5 is an innovative model of Suunto dive watches. Want to know more? Rik tells you all about it in his blog!
The Suunto D5 dive computer is similar in terms of technical specifications to the Suunto EON Core, but the D5 is, in contrast to the EON Core, also excellent for wearing as a daily watch.
The Suunto D5 will be updated in the near future with Teksting functions like other Suunto Outdoor models, enabling you to read messages on the Suunto D5. With various software updates, the Suunto D5 will also be suitable for other features in the future.
The screen of the Suunto D5 is MIP. MIP means Memory In Pixel, this has the advantage that there is little power consumption for a longer battery life and a reflective screen. Thanks to the MIP display, the screen lights up when (day)light shines on it. In shallow water and when diving in the tropics the sun shines on the screen, so the lighting of the dive computer does not have to be turned on. Thanks to the TFT screen, battery consumption is minimised. The screen can be customised to your wishes using Divemanager 5.
The Suunto D5 is equipped with a rechargeable Lithium ION battery. If you wear the watch daily with bluetooth enabled, the D5 has a battery life of about one week. The battery lasts 7 hours on a full battery. How many hours of diving you have left on your battery is displayed at the bottom of the screen.
The Suunto D5 communicates with the new Suunto App (not to be confused with Movescount). The Suunto App uses your GPS location. If you log the dive into the app at the water’s edge, you immediately know your current location. This is in contrast to Movescount, with which you had to look up your location yourself. In the Suunto App you see your dive profile and you can keep track of the dives and share them with your buddies who also use the Suunto App. The Suunto D5 can be set up completely Dive Manager on your PC or Mac.
The Suunto D5 has different models, either with a black or silver bezelring. The housing is made of composite with a stainless steel bezel with mineral glass. The glass is slightly recessed in the casing, minimising damage to the glass. You can choose from different colours of silicone straps. Suunto 40 offers a choice other straps in various colours that are suitable for the Suunto D5. The Suunto D5 is not available with a steel strap and the ring cannot be changed.
The Suunto D5 is equipped with a digital compass and a vibration alert with an alarm. The dive computer is air-integrated by means of the tank pod and contains four different diving modes: air, nitrox, gauge and free diving. Three gas changes are possible in nitrox, up to 100%. Three tank pods can be connected to the Suunto D5. In the Suunto D5, the calculation model was performed with Suunto RGBM Fused2 . With this new calculation model, it is less conservative in deeper and longer dives on air.
